The trailer signs off with the Sachin Jigar composition that croons ‘Paaji you are such a pussy cat’. In one line, I loved the trailer of Happy Ending. After the disastrous Humshakals shaking our faith on the actor’s caliber, Happy Ending‘s trailer is a glimpse of his walk towards redemption. The suave hottie Nawab Saif Ali Khan is in his best avatar playing close to what he is recognized for – subtlety, underplaying his character and quick comic timing.

The trailer of Happy Ending assures that the film is shot brilliantly. With picturesque locations used as eye candy props, the film looks gorgeous and glossy. Narrating the tale of a successful writer, Saif plays it ala Hank Moody style. But more than Californication, the trailer looks a spitting image of Castle. Saif gives his Yudi shades of Richard Castle. From the cool canter to the demeanor, all seems so similar to Castle. And yet Saif makes it his own, playing with wit and charm that is distinctly his own.

While Saif is hard to miss, it is Govinda, who like Kill Dil again eats up screen attention. He brings his own wickedness and sly humor to Armaan, a Bollywood star who is seeking a Hollywood script which he wants Yudi to write. I think after Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance, this film attempts a satire on Bollywood frills which have become the selling point of this market generally. The formula in the garb of intelligence works, there is a set pattern of film those gross big. A reference to item number and Saif’s bewildered look all conjure up to amuse you, driving home the lameness of recent potboilers even more. ‘Yeh Hatke Kya Hai, Yeh Hatke Kuch Bhi Nahi Hai’.

The cast of Happy Ending also has Ileana who is much better than her last stints; there is Kalki who is brilliant at what she does, Priety Zinta and Kareena Kapoor come in glorified cameos as well. But in the end, Happy Ending’s trailer works because of the wit, the humor, Saif Doing a Hank Moody and mostly an unusual Govinda comedy which is fun to watch. Don’t miss Govinda’s six pack abs, of course. That’s how Bollywood rolls babies.
