Recently the trailer of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy was released and the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer is receiving a lot of praises. Directed by off beat filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee, the film is based on India’s famed literary character Byomkesh Bakshi. Considering his varied choice of subjects right from his debut film Khosla Ka Ghosla to Shanghai and now this detective drama, at a recent event, the director was asked about why he chose this subject.
Interestingly, other stating his eternal love for this literary work, Banerjee hinted at the need for bringing newer subjects in Bollywood films. It seemed as if the director was hinting at the big budget commercial films starring biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan which in spite of being repetitive in their content, always work at the box office.
He said, “If every film will have a 45-year-old man playing a 22-year-old man and romancing a 23-year-old woman, then where will other interesting stories go?” Well, was this a dig on Khans? Seems so!
