Sidharth Malhotra

Sidharth Malhotra

He has struggled his way to make a mark and when he did, he quietly shunned away everyone who spoke about the nepotism bubbling within the fraternity. An actor, who shot to super fame with a magical debut in a Dharma film, had been eating away his cake too. Despite being pitted with strong contemporaries or starlets, Sidharth Malhotra made sure everyone noticed him more in his first film.

But now that he is back with Hasee Toh Phasee, it is a different story altogether. “Hasee Toh Phasee is a very light film. It is not as stylish as Student Of The Year was. I feel SOTY was more glitter than Hasee Toh Phasee. In this film, I play my age for the first time and it’s been a lot more difficult than my first film. The debut films are always at making a mark, carving recognition but the forthcoming films are difficult because you need to retain your ‘good-actor’ status. So yes, Hasee Toh Phasee helped me in that respect”, he chuckled.

With both his first film and HTP being in the same space of fun, frothy rom-coms, does Sid fear getting typecast? “At this stage, I don’t have any fear about getting stereotyped. I am just one film old and I don’t think it would be right to bracket me into a certain type, judging from just two of my films. Yes, both Student Of The Year and Hasee Toh Phasee are in a similar space when it comes to the type of films that they are, so maybe this brings you to say that. But as of now, I am not even thinking of getting stereotyped. Post this, I have The Villain which is a totally different film and its so challenging. I haven’t done something like that before and hence it won’t let me get typecast in any way”, Sidharth confidently puts it in right away.

While in the first film it was Alia Bhatt, its Parineeti Chopra now. Ask him about Pari and he can’t stop giggling. “Parineeti and me both are Punjabis so we connected really well. Plus she is very easy going and chilled out. The best part about her is that she can laugh at her own self and her own jokes. Alia will always be special because we did our first film together. But me and Parineeti too had a fabulous time and we shared a great chemistry which hopefully everyone will see in the film.”

The movie that releases a week before Valentine’s Day has the final word from its actor as well. “Honestly, the audiences have given a huge reception to our trailer and the songs. So I just hope that the film too is a hit. It has a lot riding on it for me because this I my first solo film and if this and my next film, which releases this year clicks, I will be really happy”, signed off Sid!
