Despite PK receiving a stupendous response at the box office, the Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer was soon mired in a series of controversies after many Hindu organizations accused it of offending the followers of that religion.

In a bid to ban the film, the activists of the Bajrang Dal organization vandalized the theatres in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, today. Claiming that the film has been made with the intention of making 'fun' of the Hindu religion and their godmen, the members of the Hindu organization also asked the theatre owners to stop the screening immediately.

In fact, there were even FIRs lodged against this Rajkumar Hirani directorial in many cities across India for apparently 'insulting' the religious beliefs and faiths of people and hence, requesting a ban on it. However, Supreme Court dismissed the PIL filed against it.

Though the film did not get trapped in any legal or censor dispute owing to its content, the protests in towns like Agra and Mau (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat) continue. Many of these organizations have resorted to violent means, from tearing posters, to setting them on fire, to throwing stones at the ticket windows and even threatening owners to remove PK from their theatres. Also, it was being said that one of the theatres in Parel, Mumbai, has already stopped the screening of the film.

The police are still investigating the case of violent outburst in Gujarat and the officials mentioned that they have CCTV footages to identify the persons. On the other hand, the Bajrang Dal, who claimed responsibility for the ongoing fight in the state, has threatened the makers of PK and the rest stating that this outburst will intensify if the film continues to be screened in the cities.

Also, the Censor Board which is currently headed by Leela Samson has been in favour of PK. Extending their support towards the film, Leela mentioned that these protests may be instigated. She added that when the film had come to them for certification, it was easily given a clean chit and they did not sense that the film would run into any kind of trouble.
