The hitherto smooth-sailing journey of Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (PRDP) to the theatres for this Diwali has encountered some unexpected rough weather.

Apparently the film's Telugu version which has been entitled Prem Leela has got itself into a spot of trouble, as the title is not in-sync with censorial rules for dubbed films.

Says a source from the censor board, "The title of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in Telugu has been kept as Prem Leela. The two titles mean completely different things. As per guidelines the title of a dubbed film must convey the same meaning as the original title. If not, then the producers must apply for permission to use a different title for the dubbed version of a film. The producers of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo have not applied for permission to use a different title in Telugu."

At the moment, the Telugu version of PRDP remains uncertified by the censor board due to the discrepancy in the title of the dubbed title. It's doubtful that the film's all-Indian release in 3 languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu would be possible unless the title crisis vis-a-vis the censor board in Telugu is resolved.

"We cannot censor the film in Telugu with the title Prem Leela. It doesn't mean anything close to what the original title means," says the source from the censor board.
