The War of Troy (Trojan War) begun with a wedding, the wedding of Achilles’ parents: Thetis and Peleus. There was an omen that Thetis’ son would be much stronger than his father, so Zeus made sure that Thetis would marry a mortal. All Greek gods, Greek goddess and royals were invited to this wedding expect one goddess: Eris (Discordia in Latin). To revenge them, Eris invisibly dropped an apple to the wedding writing “To the Fairest”. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite asked Zeus to decide which goddess should take it, but Zeus diplomatically refused to do so and decided to let the handsome Paris, the son of Troy’s king to decide. The three goddesses tried to bribe Paris by offering wealth (Hera), wisdom and unbeatable military power (Athena) and Helen and the most beautiful woman of the world (Aphrodite). Paris chose Aphrodite’s offer and Aphrodite was given the apple. There was only one problem. Helen was married to another man, Menelaus, the King of Sparta and brother of the all mighty king of Greeks, Agamemnon.
