Kangana Ranaut’s latest movie, Emergency, had a below-average opening at the Indian box office on Friday. Like many other Bollywood films currently struggling at the ticket windows, Emergency did not receive any special treatment. However, the film has garnered positive ratings from both critics and moviegoers, which may lead to an increase in collections over the weekend. Despite this, the initial opening suggests that the lifetime earnings may not cover the film’s production costs, and it could soon join the list of unsuccessful Bollywood movies.

Emergency is a historical biographical drama directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut. The screenplay was written by Ritesh Shah based on a story by Ranaut. The film focuses on the Indian Emergency and stars Ranaut as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Emergency was theatrically released on 17 January 2025.
