The satirical film Khosla Ka Ghosla won many hearts including the jury of National Awards and it also received a lot of critical and mass acclaim. While the film went on to win the Best Film Award at the National Awards in 2007, a recent act of filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee where he decided to return the award as a protest has irked the producer of Khosla Ka Ghosla, Savita Raj Hiremath.
Savita Raj Hiremath is upset over the fact that Dibakar Banerjee decided to return the award that ideally did not belong to him. Dibakar Banerjee took this decision in order to protest against certain issues - the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the president of FTII and also due to the increasing intolerance in the country.
However, Savita Raj questioned Dibakar's decision by stating that the award actually belonged to the producer and how can the director as the sole authority decide to return the award that the film as a whole received. It may be noted that when a film receives an award in the category of Best Film, it often goes to producer. However, a share is also given to the director who ideally conceptualized the film.
Also Savita did not support Dibakar in his decision because she truly treasured this honor. She revealed that she has worked hard for the acclaim and that she was hurt by this act and think that it was not the right way to protest against the system.
On the other hand, Dibakar Banerjee too deeply apologized to Savita for causing hurt and revealed that he had returned only his share of the National Award which included a gold medal and the cash rewards. However, the filmmaker stands firm on his way of protesting and considers that his participation along with 11 other directors who have decided to return the National Award will definitely prove beneficial and will draw attention over the issue he has been trying to fight for.
However, this hasn't affected the working relations between producer Savita Raj Hiremath and director Dibakar Banerjee. The producer stated that she is contemplating on a sequel to Khosla Ka Ghosla and also added that Dibakar is the first choice to direct the film and that she doesn't doubt his creative abilities in any way.
