The much-awaited mega-budget epic, Kalki 2898 AD, is living up to the expectations with its performance at the box office. After opening at Rs. 22.50 crores on a working Thursday, the film has shown an excellent hold in collections on the 2nd day. According to early estimates, Kalki 2898 AD has collected in the range of Rs. 19.50 crores to 20.50 crores on Friday, taking the two-day total collection to Rs. 42.50 crores.
The film is continuing to do well all across the board, be it the multiplexes or the single screens and this hold is an indication of a long theatrical run. The drop is under 10 percent across the board, which is a positive sign as there was a possibility of a bigger drop too.
Any number in the upside of Rs. 16 crores would have been a good result, but a Rs. 20 crore Friday is excellent and sets up the film well to jump on Saturday and Sunday. There is India vs South Africa World Cup Final on Saturday, and this could hamper the business of evening and night shows, but still, the movie has enough gas in its tank to zoom past the opening day figure.
There is an outside chance for Kalki 2898 AD to hit the Rs. 95 crore mark over the four day extended weekend, but it all depends on how big it collects on Saturday.
