It’s almost time for a year wrap with 2014 setting in the essence of a fresher year, a new ambiance that it might bring with it. Although the year was bombarded with some huge box-office hits and blockbusters, there were a lot of lows. With the volatile equations floating around this year, we at Koimoi.com are back with our Annual Audience Poll, where we allow our respected readers to vote for their favourites and help them march ahead with the winning leap.

Posters have always truly been the most essential part of any form of cinema. Enveloping the theme of the film and encapsulating the core idea within one single picture, is a tedious task, but one that needs sharpness and vision. With 2013 being a testament to some spectacular first look posters, we bring you the top 10 posters from the year gone by!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Movie Poster

The year which stood a testimony to the downfall of many big budget action entertainers, the genre of films that had been spicing up our Bolly appetite for the past few years, also witnessed a major change on the rom-com arena. While mushy romances were passé, the KJo-Ayan Mukherjee collision brought about a welcome change with their youth attracting, fun and frothy love saga. A contemporary take on classic tale of love, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani caught frenzy right from its first poster release. With Ranbir aka Bunny in Holi-colour (that too the coolest blue shade) smeared aviators beating the drum and his ladylove Naina (Deepika) moving to the beats was sure evidence of the crackling chemistry that still existed between the forgone lovers! And the sparkling smiles just provided the right gravitas.

Another hugely anticipated film of the year, the only Shah Rukh Khan release of 2013, Chennai Express was high on euphoric chores right from the first month as the team decided to unveil the first look posters on Jan 1st this year. While the producers revealed as many as four posters, the one that caught the eye was the one where Shah Rukh Khan is seen eloping with Deepika in tow. Deepika’s Tamilian avatar along with SRK’s cool dude-ness was definitely one of the most striking points but more than that, the poster along with the ‘kalash’ gave away the plotline oh-so-easily. And with the flying cars and this time, flying people with huge axes as well chasing the duo, Deepika and Shah Rukh could just Ready Steady Po on their way to the theatres!

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s biopic on Milkha Singh is definitely a testament to the indomitable human spirit and how. Featuring Farhan Akhtar as the ace sporting hero Milkha Singh, Mehra and Co. released a breathtaking first look poster. A fiery Farhan, enveloped in fire seemed to have ornamented the poster with fierce intensity. Power, grit, determination, valiance and victory was what the poster spoke volumes about and when the story finally unfolded on the silver screen, we could not stop losing our hearts to the charming Farhan Akhtar. Being bereft of any sporting heroes earlier, Milkha Singh became the face of power and supreme strength and how!

Race 2

Race 2 Movie Poster

A franchise that is more about love and blame-games, Race 2 matched upto the levels of hype that its predecessor had created. Love, betrayals, conniving strategies and murderous plans: Race 2 poster had every bit of ‘shak’ in it. With the entire cast covering up the poster, Race 2 poster was slick, sexy and immensely antagonizing! The looks and expressions on each face called for its share of doubts as we were kept guessing which side they are. And the digital posters released prior to that were nothing short of seductively sexy, something that is a Race trademark!

Adapting Chetan Bhagat’s Three Mistakes Of My Life must have been difficult but not impossible, proved a certain Abhishek Kapoor who, with a team of three young faces made his way on the roads to victory. A perfect ode to friendship and relationships, the story about three friends featured Raj Kumar Yadav, Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh in their usual attires having gupshup with each other. The poster created an ambience of brotherhood, one factor that’s amiss given today’s everyday changing relationship statuses. Nevertheless the bromance definitely got heightened once the film released!

Special 26

The turnkey for innovation was introduced much earlier this year with Akshay’s Special 26 team opting for an unusual and quite inspiring poster release. Shot at the backdrop of the numerous scams that plague the Indian economy today, Special 26 released a poster that is nothing more than a newspaper page but had the power packed start the film wanted to boast of. Personally, one of my favourites from the year gone by, this black and white newspaper page gave us insights into what the story is all about and gave content a head on over the star cast, unlike other posters. The idea was ingenious and the intention, new-age!

Boss

Boss Movie Poster

Another Akki flick, featuring Akshay as the Boss brought him back from the Special 26 glory to his trademark masala antics. Like his last release Khiladi 786, the Boss poster featured a gigantic punch with the B-O-S-S ring on his fingers (huh?). And the torture doesn’t end there: this one had a Gulliver sized Akshay Kumar spinning his chains (remember the key chain spinning from OMG Oh My God, anyone?) and taking on his enemies against the backdrop of a town that is seemingly smaller than the size of a Lilliput’s house! (Tees Maar Khan’s title track, whoa!) Only God and Akshay knows what was the main intention behind releasing such an obnoxious poster! It might have definitely enticed the Khiladi fans but to me, it was a dampener. It was anything, but original!

Krrish 3

Krrish 3 Movie Poster

A superhero flick that was high octane and adrenaline pumping featured Hrithik Roshan in his Krrish 3 attire, flanked by the prime antagonist Kaal on one side and the devilish good Kaya. Also spotted in the trailer is the entire team of mutants that Kaal enforces in the film. Majorly working due to the look and styling of the mutants and the menacing Kaal, the poster needed a Priyanka Chopra too to pull it off with sheen and splendor. This one was surely Thanda, to me, despite a Cheetah-woman, An Ant-man and Striker trying their level best to take it above the radar!

Ramleela

Ramleela Movie Poster

A spectacular tale of love and lust, this Sanjay Leela Bhansali flick reigned with the epic romantic saga of Romeo and Juliet being the inspiration. A maverick director, whose scenes seem like a breathtaking tapestry of finely created picture frames, marveled us with the first look of the poster. Adorning the Gujrati style with aplomb, it was the crackling chemistry between Ranveer and Deepika that livened up all the way through the poster and struck our minds. That iconic baho mein leke pose karna is oh-so-romantic, but the twist in the tale is the way Ranveer takes down Deepika’s blouse by an inch and makes the sexual quotient go notches higher. Burnished hues in the background add to the glamour all the more! Lovely and majestic, we say.

Dhoom 3

Dhoom 3 Movie Poster

Almost similar to Race 2, given the poster theme: putting in the lead characters in one frame, Dhoom 3 scored higher on the glam quotient and the celebrity quotient. In spite of having Uday Chopra in the poster, Dhoom 3 poster does make an impact and that what calls for a party! With copters flying in the sky and heavy duty sky-high buildings as the main scrim, its gain the fire-coated characters that stand out. Katrina looks ravishingly orgasmic and Aamir’s unbuttoned shirt does the magic for him. Although the first look was a piece of plagiaristic items, this one was surely a homerun.

And it’s time to leave it to you to pick your favourites! Hurry up, make your choices and vote.
