Their romance was to culminate in marriage, when Jagu, brother of Rani is released form jail and upsets their apple cart. He himself falls for Champa and does not allow Rani, his sister, to se Raja. He hits Shanker unawares and throws him in a river. . Shanker narrowly escapes death and lands at a different place but has lost his memory.
