I own four different versions of it and three have the same problem - ruined black levels. Throughout the film there are long stretches without proper blacks. They are often only various shades of grey. The fourth version I have solves the problem by darkening everything way too much, thus making the movie unwatchable. The versions I've seen here on YouTube have the same problem of no true blacks during much of the film. The problem isn't all that hard to fix in principle. All it takes is time - lots of time. Often each scene has to be tweaked and sometimes, because of changing levels within a scene, the individual frames within a scene have to be tweaked. This 'Before And After' video presents a small section of the exciting chase scene near the end of the film, up and into the heights of the famous Howrah Bridge in Kolkata, showing what the source was like as well as showing the results of the work done. For the YouTube Monetization Team, in case they might see this: This short video is an example of the kind of work done in this public domain film channel. Although the improvements made in the films aren't usually as dramatic as in this sample video, the care and effort put into the work is the same. Nothing duplicates or reuses any other source here on YouTube or anywhere else. Completely new and much improved videos are created as a result of the work done. Because of the heavy editing and restoration done for the films in this channel, the work would be eligible for renewed copyright in the US. Indian copyright law has no such provisions and once out of copyright, forever out of copyright. I hope you'll understand how the work done here creates added value for the videos in this channel and for the the YouTube site in general. From the Adsense policies: "You may be able to monetize third-party content if you have commercial use rights for that content, and you’re contributing to the value of that content in some way. This can include, but is not limited to, high-quality editing, adding commentary, or narrative." I believe the work done in this channel fulfills both the letter and the spirit of that policy. Thank you.
