This movie analyses the sensitive topic- death penalty through different multiple perspectives. In the olden day’s, when monarchy Government was ruling Travancore, Govinda Pillai was the judge of the existing court. He convicted one accused in a murder case which has come before him. As all the evidences are against the accused, judge sentenced death Penalty to him and executed immediately. But later on the real accused surrender before the judge and confessed with all the supporting evidences. Govinda Pillai was feeling extremely sad and guilty as he had sentenced death penalty to an innocent person. The very next day, when the court assembled he kept aside all the cases and took his own case. He sentenced death penalty to himself as he was misled by wrong evidence furnished before court and executed death penalty to an innocent person. He did not yield to the request of king and the people to withdraw the judgement. He made them enforce the judgment. The movie Ivide ee nagarathil is conveying the message that, in the contemporary world,even when the traitors are managing to escape through the loopholes of our existing judicial system, no compromise should be made on the capital punishment in deserving cases. If this is not implemented through the justice system people may resort to street justice which is more detrimental to our society. Movie tries to bring into notice this fact through the reprensentation of Judge Govinda Pillai. His life was his message to the whole world and became a model to the criminal justice system. By sacrificing his life for the protection of justice, he rose to the stature of divine. Next to the cheruvalli Devi temple , consecration of judgiammavan as diety has been done years back. Ivide ee nagarathil tells tales of people who are denied justice in the land of judge Govinda Pillai who sacrificed his life to ensure justice in the society.
